Seattle Global Health, Global Development and Duty of Care Meeting

The rainy Seattle evening of February 8 was the setting for the first Seattle Advisory Board. The event, held at the World Trade Center, certainly did not take any cues from the gloomy weather. Raptim Humanitarian Travel hosted the event, along with our partners, Delta Air Lines and Western Union. Washington Global Health Alliance worked with us throughout the entire planning process, and was instrumental in making this event a success.

With guests attending from World Vision, Gates Foundation, Pronto International, Medical Teams International, Remote Medical International, as well as, Langhout International, Tillers International and GMMB, the perspectives were varied and added dimension.

The discussion among the attendees focused on Duty of Care and risk management strategies. The discussion was spirited, and the perspectives added from the wide spectrum of the organizations represented, made for a conversation that did not have enough time. Following the open dialog portion, Joe Carrera of NYA International, spoke on kidnap, ransom, and other dangers facing those serving in the field today.

The networking session provided time for a light snack and to continue the interaction on a more personal basis. The interest in continuing this venue will result in a future Advisory Forum in Seattle. Additional information will be sent in the coming weeks. We hope that you can join us!
