When you read a few verses into Genesis, you can read about the world being in darkness, and God saying, “Let there be light”. For a lot of us this means bringing light into dark places. This darkness is manifested in many different ways. There are people living in the deep shadows of addiction, abuse, war, violence, discrimination and loneliness. A lot of people who have not yet been reached or enlightened live in a rectangular-shaped window of the world. This window extends from West Africa to East Asia − from ten degrees north to forty degrees north (10/40 window) of the equator. In this window, the majority of the world’s Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists live.Evangelization AbroadOf the world’s 50 least evangelized countries, over 37 countries are within the 10/40 window and that 97% of the total population of unreached people live there? The poorest of the poor live mainly in this window and only a few missionaries work among them. To work there is challenging − to say the least. There are so many people out there who haven’t really had the chance to encounter the word of God. Sometimes this is because they can’t read or they live in a very poor community where Bibles are not available. Most of them live in a culture where the Bible’s message has been denigrated, thus one should understand that when you go abroad to help the needy, you should understand how talking about your faith is perceived. The World Watch ListThe World Watch List, made by Open Doors International, helps us understand how to pray, to support, to empathize and to stand with persecuted Christians when they suffer − and rejoice with them when conditions improve. This annual report on the global persecution of Christians ranking the top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted for their faith. Released at the beginning of each year, the list uses data from Open Doors field workers and external experts to quantify and analyze persecution worldwide. You can download the report World Watch List report here.Blasphemy LawsOver 71 of the 195 countries in the world have blasphemy laws. Blasphemy is defined as ‘the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God’. Evangelizing in some of these countries can mean imprisonment and death. The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom’s ground-breaking report examines and compares these laws prohibiting blasphemy worldwide. You can download the report right here. In practice, it means that a person cannot change his/her religious beliefs, and that those who dare to say that the religious ideals of the majority are wrong are subject to prosecution. North Korea and Afghanistan are at the top of the Commission’s list.Contact Us for Flexible FaresToday, our work extends to churches, missionaries, and clergy.
