Inspiring examples of humanitarian projects

By visiting our website, you’ve probably read about humanitarian aid work. This type of work encompasses many diverse types of projects that help people across the globe. Raptim Humanitarian Travel works for humanitarian travelers. From non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on relief and development to faith-based mission travel for individuals and groups. Raptim serves humanitarians by providing travel to vulnerable and affected locations where humanitarian aid is needed most.

Get inspired by these five examples of humanitarian projects:

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors without Borders, helps people worldwide by delivering emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from healthcare.  Currently, they are working on several epidemics including malaria, Ebola and HIV/AIDS. Their medical teams in the field provide services that range from basic vaccination campaigns, maternal and pediatric care, fighting neglected diseases, to complex surgery. MSF also advocates for affordable, high-quality medicines for the world's poorest people.

The Haiti Earthquake in 2010 required collaboration from several humanitarian groups. After complete destruction of the airport, relief efforts became complicated. However, with creative travel solutions via the French Antilles help arrived. The Red Cross organized much of it and reported that nearly $500 million was raised. 51 humanitarian groups worked hand-in-hand and 22,000 families were helped.

Mercy Ships, a global charity, has operated a fleet of hospital ships in developing nations since 1978. More than 50% of the population lives within 100 miles of the coast and lack amenities such as clean water, reliable electricity, medical facilities and personnel. Mercy Ships deliver state-of-the-art hospitals to port cities therefore providing a controlled, safe and healthy environment for patients. It volunteers all of these free of charge.

Christian Solidarity International, partnering with local Christian and Muslim religious groups, organizes slave redemption actions in Sudan. They successfully negotiated for the release of slaves captured by Arab raiders from the north. CSI has documented more than 80,000 individuals who have returned from slavery through their network of collaboration between Africans and Arabs.

In Nairobi, Kenya, it is estimated that nearly 3.6 million children are either orphans or considered vulnerable. Flomina Children’s Home provides food, shelter, parental care and love for all the orphans and vulnerable children they take care of. They support the children with their education and strive to maintain their health and safety.
