Indispensable Global Events in June to Mark Your Agenda

In this series of articles, we want to highlight and expound on the global development agenda and its state globally. We mark important global events throughout the upcoming month of June, which focus on development in countries all over the world.

The importance of commemoration days about global events

In the world we live in, large amounts of information enter our minds on a daily basis from various sources. Without putting this load of information into perspective, it is useless, and more often than not, it is forgotten. In the whirlwind of everyday life, it is important to commemorate achievements and challenges in human life. Listed below are commemorative days which help remind us of important humanitarian issues and developments in human history that happened in the month of June.

1 June – Global Day of Parents This day honors parents all around the globe. It provides an opportunity to appreciate the selfless commitment parents have shown to children, sometimes under the most difficult of circumstances.  The lifelong sacrifice of parents towards nurturing this relationship deserves to be recognized and appreciated.

5 June – World Environment Day The theme for World Environment Day 2017 is ´Connecting People to Nature´. It urges us to go outdoors and into nature, interact with it. It is a day to appreciate the importance of nature to human´s well-being and amplify the need to protect the Earth that we share.

8 June – World Oceans Day Oceans are the foundations of life. They cover about two-thirds of the surface of the Earth. This year's theme for the global event is 'Our oceans, our future', we learn about the impact of human actions on the ocean. The day is connected with the celebration of the Ocean Conference that is held around the same time at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

12 June – World Day Against Child Labor 168 million children around the world are engaged in child labor. Many of them live in areas affected by conflict. The World Day Against Child Labor on June 12th will focus on the impact of conflicts and disasters on child labor.

14 June – World Blood Donor Day This year's World Blood Donor Day will focus on blood donation in emergencies. The natural human response at a time of urgency is to ask what you can do to help. The slogan for the 2017 campaign is: "What can you do?" With an additional call to action: "Give blood. Give now. Give often".

20 June – World Refugee Day This global event reminds the world to commemorate the strength, courage, and resilience of millions of refugees. Last year, the UN Refugee Agency launched the #WithRefugees campaign to send a message to governments that they must work together and do their fair share for refugees. The campaign continues until a global compact for refugees is signed in 2018.

There are countless projects which have fought and emerged victorious in eradicating humanitarian issues ranging from diseases to natural calamities. These projects resulted in commemorative days about global events in which we celebrate the achievements.
